Handcrafted Red stripes Cross Body / Passport Bag, Bolivia

Gorgeous handcrafted cross body bag / Passport bag are made by artisans in Bolivia and Peru, and bring the mix of natural and vibrant colors with geometric patterns and represent their love and culture. Clutch was made out of Aguayo (Awayu) manta (Andean handmade textile).

Bolivian and Peru Aguayo (Awayu) fabric or vintage "frazada" is a hand woven textile blanket made in the Andes of Bolivia &Peru by the Quechua (Native Americans). Each color of thread is dyed by hand using natural fibers of wood, leaves or flowers. While this bag is durable it has very delicate and intricate designs woven into its fabric. The Bolivian craftsmen carefully worked each piece with care and affection.

AGUAYO INFORMATION:

An Aguayo is a rectangular piece of cloth used in traditional communities in the Andes of Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Argentina. The aguayo is most associated with Quechua and Aymara culture but is not exclusive to them. Aguayos typically features colorful stripes interrelated with other figures with symbolic values. Quechua and Aymara women often use them to carry children and take products to the market.

The traditional native Aguayos were done using alpaca, sheep or llama wool, which are colored using natural coloring with bright colors.

Each of these Aguayos tell the story of a community or includes symbols which are original to their culture using colors, techniques and designs which make each community different from the others.

*Currently, you can find hand woven aguayos but mostly artisans are creating Aguayos textiles with cotton and acrylic fibers, these are no longer done by had but instead using industrial methods. These cotton Aguayos fabric are used to create bags, table cloths, bed cloths, etc.
