Aguayo and Suede Clutch, Bolivia - Light Blue

This aguayo and suede Clutch are made by artisans in Bolivia,  and bring the mix of natural and vibrant colors and represent their love and culture. Clutch was made out of Aguayo (Awayu) manta (Andean handmade textile) and Suede applique.

Each color of thread is dyed by hand using natural fibers of wood, leaves or flowers. While this bag is durable it has very delicate and intricate designs woven into its fabric. The Bolivian craftsmen carefully worked each piece with care and affection.

- Our Clutch of textile Aguayo and suede feature an inner black  lining, two pocket and zipper on top and magnetic button to close. It is the perfect accessory for everyday use. It comes with a wrist strap, made with faux leather and suede)

AGUAYO INFORMATION:
An Aguayo is a rectangular piece of cloth used in traditional communities in the Andes of Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Argentina. The aguayo is most associated with Quechua and Aymara culture but is not exclusive to them. Aguayos typically features colorful stripes interrelated with other figures with symbolic values. Quechua and Aymara women often use them to carry children and take products to the market.

The Aguayo is a native textile made by native indigenous women, it is difficult to create and done using primitive methods. The traditional native Aguayos were done using alpaca, sheep or llama wool, which are colored using natural coloring with bright colors.

Each of these Aguayos tell the story of a community or includes symbols which are original to their culture using colors, techniques and designs which make each community different from the others.

*Currently, you can find hand woven aguayos but mostly artisans are creating Aguayos textiles with cotton and acrylic fibers, these are no longer done by had but instead using industrial methods. These cotton Aguayos fabric are used to create bags, table cloths, bed cloths, etc.
